Which offices the UCM6300 fits

The UCM6300 is the box your extensions register to. It handles call routing, the auto attendant, voicemail, queues and call recording, and it connects the office to the outside world over SIP trunks and analog lines. Every model has FXO ports for analog lines and FXS ports for fax machines or a lobby phone, with lifeline capability if the power drops.

There are two lines. The standard UCM6301, UCM6304 and UCM6308 add video calling and video meetings with up to 9 video feeds per room. The Audio series, UCM6304A and UCM6308A, drops video, keeps voice meetings and instant messaging, and carries a lower user ceiling.

Size it on users and concurrent calls, not on the number of desks you have today. The GRP2600 and GRP2610 phones provision to it with zero-config, so a new desk is plug in and go.

Grandstream UCM6301

IP PBX, up to 500 users

The UCM6301 is the entry point to the series and the one most small offices end up with. It takes 500 users and 75 concurrent calls, which covers a company of a few dozen staff with room to grow for years.

It has one FXS and one FXO port, so you get a single analog line and a single analog device. If you still run several PSTN lines, you'll want a bigger model or a SIP trunk.

Grandstream UCM6304

Rack-mount IP PBX, up to 2,000 users

The UCM6304 is a rack unit for mid-sized sites and multi-branch companies. It handles 2,000 users and 300 concurrent calls, and its four FXO ports let you keep a handful of analog lines alongside your SIP trunks during a migration.

Choose it over the UCM6304A when you need video: video calls between desk phones like the GXV range, or video meetings hosted on the PBX itself.

Grandstream UCM6304A

Audio-only IP PBX, up to 1,000 users

The UCM6304A keeps the four FXS and four FXO ports of the UCM6304 but halves the capacity to 1,000 users and 150 concurrent calls, and it has no video. What you get instead is voice meetings, audio web meetings and instant messaging in the Wave app.

It's the right call for an office that runs on voice and has more analog lines than a UCM6301 can take. According to the datasheet it's a compact wall or desktop unit rather than a rack box, which suits a small comms cupboard.

Grandstream UCM6308

Rack-mount IP PBX, up to 3,000 users

The UCM6308 is the top of the series: 3,000 users, 450 concurrent calls and eight FXS plus eight FXO ports. It's built for hotels, hospitals, campuses and head offices that route calls for several sites.

Pair two of them in hot standby if the phones can't go down.

Grandstream UCM6308A

Audio-only rack IP PBX, up to 1,500 users

The UCM6308A gives you the full eight FXS and eight FXO ports in a rack chassis, with the Audio series limits of 1,500 users and 200 concurrent calls. There's no video.

Pick it for voice-heavy sites that still have a lot of analog: a hotel with fax lines and lift phones, or a factory with legacy extensions on the floor. If you'd rather keep video open as an option, the UCM6308 doubles the user count and adds it.

Choosing

Choosing between them

Count two things before you pick: how many analog lines and devices you need to keep, and how many calls run at the same time at your busiest hour. Users are rarely the limit. A 60-person office almost never needs more than a UCM6301 on users, but it may need more than one FXO port.

The UCM6304A over the UCM6304 comes down to video. If nobody will make video calls through the PBX or host video meetings on it, the 6304A gives you the same four FXS and four FXO ports in a smaller wall or desktop box. You give up half the user and call capacity, 1,000 users against 2,000, which is still plenty for most single-site offices.

The same logic applies to the UCM6308A against the UCM6308. If you're unsure whether video will matter later, buy the standard model.

For more analog ports than eight, pair any UCM with a GXW4200 FXS gateway rather than jumping to a bigger PBX.

Deployment notes for Oman

Most new installations connect to a SIP trunk from Omantel or Ooredoo. You'll need the trunk details from the carrier: the SIP server address, your account credentials and the DID number range. If you still have PSTN lines, they plug straight into the FXO ports.

All models have three Gigabit ports with PoE+, but the phones still need a PoE switch. Remote staff connect through the free Wave app, and the UCM RemoteConnect cloud service handles NAT traversal for those remote connections.

Can the UCM6300 connect to Omantel or Ooredoo SIP trunks?

Yes. The UCM6300 series is a standard SIP PBX, so it registers to carrier SIP trunks. Get the server address, credentials and DID range from your carrier and your integrator sets up the trunk and inbound routes.

Can I keep my analog lines and fax machine?

Yes. PSTN lines connect to the FXO ports and fax machines or analog phones to the FXS ports. The PBX supports T.38 fax and fax to email, and the ports keep working as lifeline lines during a power cut.
