Toshiba Hard Drives in Oman
S300 surveillance, S300 AI and MG enterprise drives supplied to integrators, contractors and resellers across the Sultanate.

- Authorised Distribution
Three companies still manufacture hard drives. Toshiba is one of them.
Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba. That is the entire industry.
This matters more than it reads. Storage supply has tightened repeatedly over recent years, and when it does, an integrator with one qualified source has a project on hold and an integrator with three has a project proceeding. For anyone running several NVR deployments concurrently in Oman, that is worth more than a marginal specification advantage.
Elite Infotech supplies Toshiba surveillance and enterprise drives across Oman through authorised distribution, alongside Seagate and Western Digital. We will tell you honestly which of the three suits your project.

The SMR question, and why it matters on the S300
Most Toshiba S300 models from 2 TB to 6 TB use shingled magnetic recording. The 1 TB model and one 4 TB variant use conventional recording. Toshiba does not make this prominent.
For pure surveillance this is defensible. SMR overlaps data tracks to raise density, and it handles sequential writes well — which is exactly what a recorder produces. Toshiba rates the SMR models at 180 TB/year and up to 64 cameras precisely because that workload suits them.
Where it becomes a problem is RAID. Rebuilding an array involves heavy random rewrite, and SMR drives slow substantially under it. If the deployment is a RAID-configured recorder or a NAS, specify S300 Pro or S300 AI, both of which are CMR across every capacity.
One genuine oddity worth knowing
The 4 TB CMR model, HDWT140UZSVA, carries a 110 TB/year workload rating — lower than the 180 TB/year on the 4 TB SMR model — but adds rotational vibration sensors. Same brand, same capacity, different engineering trade.
We check which variant is in stock before quoting, because the two are not interchangeable on a multi-bay build.
Choosing between S300, S300 Pro and S300 AI
All three say surveillance on the label. They are three tiers apart in workload rating, bay support and warranty.
The practical rule we apply when quoting
Under 8 bays with no analytics and no RAID, S300 is correct and cheaper. RAID, or more than 8 bays, or a 4K estate, means S300 Pro. Analytics running on the recorder means S300 AI, and nothing else in the Toshiba range is rated for it.
Specifying Toshiba against Seagate and Western Digital
We stock all three and will give you a straight comparison rather than steering you toward whatever carries the best margin this month.
| Requirement | Toshiba | Seagate | Western Digital |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mainstream surveillance | S300 | SkyHawk | WD Purple |
| AI analytics recorders | S300 AI | SkyHawk AI | WD Purple Pro |
| Enterprise and data centre | MG series | Exos | Ultrastar DC |
| Highest surveillance workload | 550 TB/yr (S300 AI) | 550 TB/yr (SkyHawk AI) | 550 TB/yr (Purple Pro) |
| Max surveillance capacity | 24 TB | 32 TB | 26 TB |
At equivalent capacity and workload rating the three perform comparably, and all are legitimate choices. What actually decides a project is availability against your delivery date, warranty terms, and whether you are standardising an existing estate.
One practical rule: avoid mixing manufacturers inside a single RAID array, because rebuild behaviour and timeout handling differ enough to matter. Mixing across separate systems is a non-issue and most sites we supply do exactly that.
Heat and coastal conditions in Oman
S300 is rated to a 70°C surface operating temperature, S300 Pro to 65°C, S300 AI to 60°C, and MG series typically to 55°C. Note the direction of that: the more capable the drive, the tighter the thermal envelope, because helium-sealed high-capacity drives run closer to their limits.
Ambient across the Sultanate passes 45°C for months, and equipment rooms in warehouses, labour accommodation and remote industrial sites are routinely not cooled to specification. On any MG series deployment we ask about cooling before quoting, because a 55°C ceiling in an uncooled room in Sohar in July is not a theoretical constraint.

Sourcing Toshiba through Elite Infotech
Genuine stock, verified model numbers
Hard drives are among the most commonly misrepresented products in the grey market — refurbished units sold as new, desktop drives relabelled for surveillance, drives with no valid regional warranty. We confirm the exact model number, not just the capacity, on every quotation.
Manufacturer warranty
Three years on S300. Five years on S300 Pro, S300 AI and the MG series. Claims processed through authorised channels.
Local stock across four branches
Inventory in Muscat with coverage from Ruwi, Sohar and Salalah, against a four to six week wait on direct import.
Third-source availability
This is the practical reason most of our integrator customers keep Toshiba qualified. When a Seagate or WD capacity goes to allocation, having a Toshiba equivalent already approved on the project keeps the schedule intact.
How to order
Supply only — we specify and deliver the drives, we do not install.
- Send your requirement — camera count and retention days, bay count and RAID configuration, or server specification.
- We confirm the correct Toshiba line, capacity and exact model number against your workload, and flag whether an SMR or CMR variant is in stock.
- You receive a formal quotation with stock confirmation and lead time.
- Trade accounts receive tiered pricing on submission of commercial registration.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a Toshiba desktop drive in a CCTV recorder?
No. Desktop drives are not rated for continuous sequential writing and will fail early, typically after the retention period has already been promised to the client. Use S300, S300 Pro or S300 AI depending on the deployment.
What is the difference between S300, S300 Pro and S300 AI?
S300 handles up to 8 bays at 180 TB per year with a three-year warranty. S300 Pro moves to 7,200 RPM, full CMR, 24 bays, 300 TB per year and five years. S300 AI adds OptiFrame AI firmware, 32 AI streams, 550 TB per year and capacities to 24 TB. Specify Pro for RAID or more than 8 bays, and AI when the recorder runs analytics.
Do Toshiba S300 drives use SMR?
Most S300 models from 2 TB to 6 TB use shingled magnetic recording, which suits the sequential write pattern of continuous surveillance recording. The 1 TB model and one 4 TB variant use conventional recording. S300 Pro and S300 AI are CMR across every capacity. For RAID deployments, specify Pro or AI.
How does Toshiba S300 compare with Seagate SkyHawk and WD Purple?
At equivalent capacity and workload rating they perform comparably and all three are legitimate NVR choices. The practical differentiators are availability against your timeline and warranty terms. We stock all three and quote on what meets your delivery date.
Which Toshiba drives suit a Dahua NVR?
S300 for conventional recording, S300 Pro where the recorder is RAID-configured or exceeds 8 bays, and S300 AI where analytics run alongside recording. Confirm the capacity against your recorder model’s compatibility list — we check this when quoting.
Do Toshiba drives from Elite Infotech carry warranty in Oman?
Yes, through authorised distribution with regional support. S300 carries three years. S300 Pro, S300 AI and the MG series carry five.
Do you supply Toshiba drives in project quantities?
Yes, at trade and project pricing to integrators and resellers across Oman. Send capacities and quantities for a quote with lead time.
