Add face recognition or plate matching and the drive is suddenly doing random reads against the same platters it is writing to, continuously, with no idle window. What S300 AI adds over S300 Pro
Nearly double the workload rating
Against 300 TB per year on S300 Pro and 180 TB on standard S300. On a 64-camera 4K estate, S300 Pro is at its rating inside a year.
A tenfold better read error rate
Against 1 per 1014 on both S300 and S300 Pro. During a RAID rebuild the array reads every sector on every surviving drive, so an order of magnitude on unrecoverable read errors is the difference between a rebuild that finishes and one that fails partway.
A larger buffer on higher capacities
14 TB and above carry 1,024 MiB against 512 MiB on S300 Pro. Buffer size matters disproportionately under mixed read and write load, which is precisely the AI workload.

Approximately 7.0 to 8.1 W operating on the helium models and 8.5 to 9.6 W on the air-filled 10 TB, with active idle from 3.66 W. The helium drives are both larger and cooler, which is the whole argument for helium at density.
