What a UniFi access point costs in Oman
Access point pricing spans a wide range across the U6 and U7 lines, and the cheapest unit is frequently the wrong purchase. A U6 Lite covers a villa or a small retail unit comfortably. Put the same unit in a classroom with thirty-five devices and it will struggle, because the limit you hit is client density rather than coverage area.
Budget for the gateway and the switching alongside the access points. A common and expensive planning error is costing APs alone and discovering the PoE budget afterwards.
Access points
The U6 series is where most Oman deployments still sit. U6 Lite for small spaces, U6 Pro where client density rises, U6 Long-Range where you are covering a warehouse floor with fewer, better-placed units.
The U7 series adds Wi-Fi 7 and the 6GHz band. Worth specifying on new-build projects and high-density sites, though the benefit only materialises as client devices adopt the standard. Treat it as a forward investment rather than an immediate performance gain.
Outdoor-rated units cover courtyards, car parks and compound coverage. In Oman these need mounting with genuine thought about sun exposure — a unit rated for outdoor use will still run hot on a south-facing wall through July, and heat shortens the life of the electronics regardless of what the IP rating says about water.
Switching, PoE budget and gateways
This is the section that prevents the most callbacks, so it is worth reading before you order.
UniFi switches carry PoE across most of the range, and your access points draw their power from them. The sizing figure that matters is total PoE budget against total powered devices — not port count.
A sixteen-port switch with a PoE budget too small for sixteen powered devices will brown out under load. It usually happens when the site is fully occupied, which is the worst moment and the hardest to reproduce afterwards. We check this on every design we quote, including designs we did not produce.
For gateways, the Cloud Gateway Ultra suits sites up to roughly thirty devices. Beyond that the Dream Machine Pro or SE makes more sense for throughput and because rack mounting becomes sensible. The controller runs on the gateway itself, so there is no separate server to license or maintain.
Point-to-point links across difficult ground
This is where Ubiquiti earns its place in Oman specifically.
Trenching fibre between two buildings separated by a wadi, a main road or a leased boundary is expensive, slow, and in many cases not permitted at all. airMAX and airFiber links solve it — a licence-free wireless bridge carrying a usable connection between sites with line of sight.
We have specified these for industrial sites around Sohar, for compound-to-compound links, and for remote facilities where the alternative was a leased line at a recurring cost that never ends.
Range and throughput depend entirely on distance, line of sight and interference, so this is a site-survey conversation rather than a catalogue purchase. Do not buy a PtP link off a specification sheet.

- Schools and universities — campus coverage with per-VLAN separation between staff, student and guest traffic.
