Installer Setup Guide

Dahua Camera Default IP, Username & Password — Complete Setup Guide

Everything you need to open the first login page, initialize a new camera, discover units already on the network, and secure the install — written from a Dahua distributor desk that commissions systems across Oman.

You’ve unboxed a Dahua camera, plugged it in, and now you can’t find it on the network. It happens on almost every first install, and the fix is simpler than it looks. The Dahua camera default IP is 192.168.1.108, and once you know how the login and initialization process works, you can get any Dahua camera online in under ten minutes.

This guide walks you through the default IP address, the default username and password, how to find a camera when it doesn’t respond, and how to change everything for a secure, conflict-free installation. Whether you’re an installer commissioning a single villa system or an integrator rolling out forty cameras on a commercial site in Oman, the steps are the same.

What Is the Default IP Address of a Dahua Camera?

Every Dahua IP camera ships from the factory with the same static address:

Default IP address192.168.1.108
Subnet mask255.255.255.0
Default HTTP port80 (web access)
Device protocol port (TCP)37777

Because every new camera uses the same address, your computer must sit on the same subnet before it can talk to the camera. If your PC’s address starts with anything other than 192.168.1.x, the camera’s login page simply won’t load — this is the single most common reason a brand-new Dahua camera “doesn’t work.”

Quick Fix

Temporarily set your PC’s network adapter to a static IP such as 192.168.1.50, subnet 255.255.255.0. Then open your browser and go to http://192.168.1.108. The Dahua login or initialization page should appear.

Dahua Default Username and Password

What you see at first login depends on the age of the camera’s firmware, so it helps to know both cases before you climb the ladder.

Newer cameras (2017 firmware onwards): no default password

Dahua removed fixed default passwords for security reasons. Out of the box, the camera is “uninitialized” — the first person to connect is forced to create a password before the camera will do anything else. The default username remains admin, but you set the password yourself during initialization. On new-install projects we handle for partners at Elite Infotech Oman, this initialization step is where we brief the client on the recovery email flow.

During that first setup you’ll also be asked to link a recovery email address. Don’t skip it. That email is the fastest way to reset the password later, and on handover it should belong to the client or the maintenance contract holder — not to whichever technician happened to be on site.

Older cameras and legacy firmware

Cameras made before the change shipped with these well-known combinations:

  • admin / admin (the most common)
  • 888888 / 888888 (device console)
  • 666666 / 666666 (limited user)

If a second-hand or older unit accepts admin/admin, change it immediately. These credentials are public knowledge, and an exposed camera with a default Dahua password is one of the most common entry points attackers scan for.

How to Find a Dahua Camera’s IP Address

Can’t reach 192.168.1.108? The camera has probably already been initialized or re-addressed at some point. The fastest way to locate it is Dahua’s free ConfigTool, part of the Dahua ToolBox suite. If you're commissioning any of our Dahua CCTV cameras in Oman, this is the tool we recommend to every installer we supply.

  1. Download and install ConfigTool from Dahua’s official website.
  2. Connect your PC to the same physical network (switch or PoE NVR ports) as the camera.
  3. Open ConfigTool and press Search. It scans the LAN and lists every Dahua device it finds — even ones on a different subnet than your PC.
  4. Note the IP, firmware version, and initialization status shown for each device.

ConfigTool can also initialize new cameras, set passwords, and change IP addresses in batches — a huge time-saver on multi-camera projects. If you’re commissioning twenty cameras, you can initialize and re-address all of them from one screen instead of logging into each camera individually.

No ConfigTool handy? Check your router’s DHCP client list, or if the camera is plugged into a Dahua NVR’s PoE ports, the NVR assigns and displays each camera’s address under Camera > Registration.

Step-by-Step: First-Time Dahua Camera Setup

  1. Set your PC to the 192.168.1.x range and browse to http://192.168.1.108.
  2. On the initialization screen, create a strong password for the admin account (8+ characters, mixed case, numbers, and a symbol).
  3. Link a recovery email address and, where offered, set security questions.
  4. Install the browser plugin if prompted, or use a supported browser to view live video.
  5. Go to Setting > Network > TCP/IP and change the camera’s IP to its permanent address for your project.
  6. Update the date, time, and time zone — wrong timestamps make recorded footage far less useful as evidence.

How to Change the Default IP (and Why You Must)

If you connect two factory-fresh Dahua cameras to the same network, both will claim 192.168.1.108 and neither will work reliably. On any installation with more than one camera, re-addressing is not optional.

A clean approach that works on sites of any size:

  • Reserve a dedicated range for cameras, for example 192.168.1.111 to 192.168.1.199, and document which camera holds which address.
  • Either set static IPs through ConfigTool’s batch mode, or enable DHCP during commissioning and then reserve each address in the router.
  • Keep the camera VLAN or subnet separate from the office network on commercial projects — it keeps video traffic contained and reduces the attack surface.

Forgot Your Dahua Password? Reset Options

Once a camera has been initialized, there is no backdoor default to fall back on — that’s the point of the security model. Your options, in order of speed:

  • Linked email reset: on the login page, click Forgot Password. The camera generates a QR code; scan it with the DMSS app and a security code is sent to the recovery email set during initialization.
  • Security questions: available on NVRs and some cameras if they were configured at setup.
  • Hardware reset button: many models have a physical reset that returns the camera to an uninitialized state. Hold it for about 10 seconds while the camera is powered. You’ll lose the configuration, but you can start fresh.
  • Distributor support: for older units with no reset route, your Dahua distributor can raise a reset request with Dahua using the device serial number and proof of ownership.

As the authorized Dahua distributor in Oman, Elite Infotech handles these reset escalations routinely for partner installers — it’s usually a same-day process when the serial number and purchase record are in hand.

Security Best Practices After Setup

Getting the camera online is half the job. Keeping it secure is the other half, and it takes five minutes:

  • Change every default: password, IP address, and — on internet-exposed devices — the default ports. If the camera integrates with a Dahua access control system, propagate the credential change there too.
  • Create separate user accounts for operators instead of sharing the admin login.
  • Update the firmware during commissioning; shipped firmware is often months old.
  • Disable UPnP and avoid direct port forwarding. Use the P2P/DMSS cloud service or a VPN for remote viewing instead.
  • Record the final IP scheme, passwords, and recovery email in the handover document your client signs off.

Once the cameras are commissioned securely, they’re ready to go into your project docs. Frequently Asked Questions

Dahua Default IP & Password — Quick Answers

What is the default IP of a Dahua IP camera?
All Dahua IP cameras ship with the static address 192.168.1.108 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Your computer must be on the same 192.168.1.x range to open the login page.
What is the default admin password for a Dahua camera?
Cameras with firmware from 2017 onwards have no preset password — you create one at first login (the username is admin). Older units commonly used admin/admin, which should be changed the moment the camera is powered up.
How do I find my Dahua camera's IP address?
Use Dahua's free ConfigTool to scan the network; it lists every Dahua device with its current IP, even across subnets. Alternatively, check the router's DHCP list or the NVR's camera registration page.
Why can't I open 192.168.1.108 in my browser?
Nine times out of ten, your PC is on a different subnet. Set the PC to a static address like 192.168.1.50 and try again. If it still fails, the camera has likely been re-addressed — scan with ConfigTool.
How do I reset a Dahua camera to factory settings?
Hold the physical reset button for around 10 seconds while powered, or use the Forgot Password flow with the linked recovery email. A hardware reset returns the camera to an uninitialized state, so you'll set it up from scratch.
Can I set up multiple Dahua cameras at once?
Yes. ConfigTool supports batch initialization and batch IP assignment, which is the standard method on multi-camera commercial installations.
