What separates SkyHawk AI from a standard surveillance drive
Seagate sells two surveillance lines. Standard SkyHawk covers small DVR and entry NVR installations. SkyHawk AI is the tier above, and the gap between them is wider than the naming suggests.

A recorder doing face recognition or ANPR is reading and writing at the same time, from the same platters. SkyHawk AI is rated to sustain 32 AI streams concurrently with up to 64 HD camera streams, at up to 120 real-time capture events and 96 compare events per second.

More than three times a standard surveillance drive, and roughly ten times a desktop drive. Combined with an 8,760-hour annual power-on rating, this is the specification that determines whether the drive reaches year five.
RAID RapidRebuild
Rebuilds a degraded volume around three times faster than a conventional rebuild. On a 16-bay recorder holding 20 TB drives, that difference is measured in days, and every hour of it is an hour the array is exposed.

Standard SkyHawk is built for conventional DVR and entry-level NVR recording. SkyHawk AI adds ImagePerfect AI firmware, support for 32 concurrent AI streams, RAID RapidRebuild, and a higher workload and MTBF rating. If the recorder runs analytics, specify SkyHawk AI.
How many cameras can one SkyHawk AI drive support?

Can SkyHawk AI drives be used in a NAS?
They will run, but the firmware is tuned for surveillance write patterns rather than multi-user random access. For NAS use, IronWolf Pro is the correct family.
