Time-limited error recovery
Caps how long the drive spends attempting to recover a marginal sector, so the RAID controller does not time out and eject a working drive. This is the difference between a logged error and a rebuild.
Dual-plane balancing
Balances the platter stack at two points during manufacture rather than one, reducing the vibration the drive contributes to its own chassis. In a 12-bay array that compounds.
