What digital signage actually means here

One term, eight different products

“Digital signage” covers any screen that displays scheduled, centrally managed content in a commercial space. In practice that single phrase hides eight quite different products with different price points, different failure modes and different installation requirements. A menu board behind a coffee counter and a 10-metre LED billboard on the Muscat Expressway are both digital signage, and almost nothing about specifying one carries over to the other.

The useful first question is not which brand or which resolution, but where the viewer stands and what light they are standing in. Viewing distance sets the pixel pitch you need; ambient light sets the brightness. Everything else — cabinet type, mounting, content system, service plan — follows from those two answers. Get them wrong and no amount of specification elsewhere rescues the result.

Below, each signage format links through to its full specification page. If you already know the format you need, go straight there. If you do not, the comparison table further down narrows it in one pass.

Signage formats

Digital signage displays we supply in Oman

Indoor LED display

Fine-pitch panels for lobbies, showrooms and retail interiors, where viewers stand close and pixel pitch decides how sharp the content looks.

Outdoor LED billboard

High-brightness, IP65-rated screens for roadside and building-facade advertising, specified at 5,000–10,000 nits for Omani daylight.

LED sign board

Shop-front and facade signage in single-colour, dual-colour or full RGB — the direct replacement for a printed or backlit fascia sign.

Digital menu screens

Menu boards for restaurants, cafes and QSR counters, updated centrally so pricing and offers change everywhere at once.

Digital signage kiosk

Interactive touch kiosks for malls, hotels, banks and airports — wayfinding, self-service and bilingual interfaces.

LED video wall

Modular P1.25–P10 walls for auditoriums, lobbies and events where one large seamless canvas is needed.

Transparent LED signage

See-through panels for glass storefronts and facades that keep the daylight and the view behind the screen.

Control room video wall

Zero-bezel walls built for 24/7 operation in security, utility and traffic control rooms.

Narrowing it down

Which signage format fits which job

Read this by starting from the left column — where the screen goes and who looks at it. The specification follows from that, not the other way round.

Where it goes Typical format Pixel pitch Brightness
Roadside or building facade, seen from 20 m+ Outdoor LED billboard P6–P10 5,000–10,000 nits, IP65
Shop front or fascia, seen from the pavement LED sign board P4–P8 4,000–6,500 nits
Behind a service counter, viewers 2–5 m away Digital menu screens P1.5–P2.5, or LCD 600–1,200 nits
Mall or lobby, viewers walk right up to it Digital signage kiosk Touch LCD, or P1.2–P1.8 LED 500–800 nits
Glass storefront, must keep the daylight Transparent LED signage P3.9–P7.8 4,000–6,000 nits
Auditorium or large lobby, one seamless canvas LED video wall P1.25–P4 800–1,500 nits

Pitch figures are the practical band, not a hard rule — the underlying guide is that the minimum comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly the pixel pitch in millimetres. A P4 panel reads cleanly from about four metres. Pixel pitch explained works through this properly.

Manufacturers and supply

Buying from a signage manufacturer in Oman

Most searches for a “digital signage manufacturer in Oman” are really looking for someone who can buy from one. There is no volume LED panel manufacturing in Oman — the panels come from a small number of established plants, most of them in China, and the question that actually matters is who specifies, imports, installs and then supports them here.

Elite Infotech is that local partner, not a manufacturer. We supply panels from established names including Absen and Unilumin, alongside others chosen per project, and we take responsibility for the parts a factory cannot: specifying the right pitch and brightness for your site, importing with duty and VAT handled, installing against the structure you actually have, and answering the phone when a module fails in year three.

That distinction is worth being clear about when comparing quotes. A price direct from a factory portal excludes shipping, duty, VAT, structure, installation, commissioning and any local warranty route — and those are most of the delivered cost of a signage project. Our LED display price guide for Oman sets out the supply-only bands and what sits outside them.

We supply integrators and contractors as well as end clients. If you are fitting out on behalf of someone else, tell us the spec and we will quote supply-only.

Running the screens

The part most signage projects underestimate

The hardware decision gets all the attention and the content system gets almost none, which is backwards: the panel is bought once, the content system is used every week for a decade. A signage network is only worth having if changing what is on it is genuinely easy — a price change pushed to every branch before opening, a promotion scheduled to start on Thursday, an Arabic and English rotation on the same screen.

Ask three questions of any content system before you commit: can a non-technical member of staff change a price without calling anyone; can screens be grouped so one change hits a whole region; and does it keep working when the branch loses internet for an afternoon. A system that fails the third question will embarrass you eventually, because the screens go black in front of customers rather than quietly holding the last schedule.

We configure and hand over the content system as part of installation, and train whoever will actually be using it rather than whoever signed for it.

Who you would be dealing with

Elite Infotech, Muscat

Elite Infotech and Business SPC is a Muscat-based technology supplier serving Oman and the wider GCC. The LED Solutions division supplies and installs commercial display systems across Muscat, Seeb, Sohar, Salalah, Nizwa and Sur, for retail, hospitality, corporate, government and event clients. We are also the authorised national distributor for Dahua security products in Oman, which is why a single fit-out often covers both signage and surveillance.

Guidance on this site is written and reviewed by Munzeem Bin Mujeeb, Managing Director of the LED Display Division, who has spent more than ten years delivering commercial LED systems in this region. Where we quote a figure, it reflects what we actually quote and install here.

Digital signage FAQ

Questions we are asked before quoting

Digital signage is any screen used to show changing information or advertising in a public or commercial space — a menu board above a counter, a wayfinding kiosk in a mall, an LED billboard on a roadside, a welcome wall in a lobby. What separates it from a television is that the content is managed centrally and scheduled, and the hardware is specified to run for long hours in the conditions of the site rather than in a living room.

For LED signage, supply-only panel rates in Oman run from roughly OMR 135 per square metre for a coarse-pitch outdoor screen to about OMR 1,540 per square metre for fine-pitch indoor or transparent panels. A finished installation typically lands 35 to 70 percent above the panel figure once structure, mounting, control system, content player, duty and VAT are included. Smaller LCD-based menu boards and kiosks are priced per unit rather than per square metre.

No. Elite Infotech is a supplier and integrator based in Muscat. We source panels from established manufacturers — Absen, Unilumin and others — and take responsibility for specifying the right product, supplying it with warranty, installing it and supporting it afterwards. If you are searching for a signage manufacturer in Oman, what you almost certainly need is a local partner who can buy from those manufacturers on your behalf and stand behind the result.

An LED signage display is built from modular LED panels tiled into any size, with no bezel between them and brightness high enough for daylight or direct sun. An LCD screen is a fixed-size panel with a visible bezel, lower brightness, and a lower price at small sizes. Below roughly 2 metres and indoors, LCD is usually the sensible choice; above that, or anywhere sunlight reaches, LED is the only format that holds up.

Outdoor signage in Oman should be specified at 5,000 nits minimum, and 7,000 to 10,000 nits where the screen faces direct sun. Alongside brightness, the panel needs IP65 sealing against dust and an active thermal design — ambient temperatures here regularly defeat hardware specified for milder climates, and a screen that dims or shuts down at midday is the usual result.

Yes. A content management system addresses each screen or group of screens individually, so a menu change, a promotion or a language switch can be pushed to one branch or to every branch at once, on a schedule. This is normally the reason a business moves from printed signage to digital in the first place, and it matters more than the panel specification for multi-site retail and hospitality.

Commercial LED panels are rated at 100,000 hours or more, which is over eleven years of continuous operation. Reaching that in Oman depends on maintenance: dust removal, colour recalibration and thermal checks. Screens run without a maintenance programme degrade noticeably faster in this climate, and the difference shows first as uneven colour across the wall.
